What People Are Saying
Anna Caputo uses a blend of authority and compassion to deliver oncologist Elizabeth Comen's accounts of the ineffective and even harmful medical treatment given to women over four centuries. Caputo ensures that the author's sarcasm and wit come through; both enliven the writing and the narration. S.W. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2024]
The three performers bring beauty to the spoken word. Anna Caputo lends a tragic vulnerability to Lonnie, the mentally challenged woman the entire village cares for. The recording quality of this production is pristine, as crystalline as the glaciers of Port Mettier. This audiobook is a pleasure to the ears, and the murder mystery is truly compelling. M.S. Anna Caputo and Jane Oppenheimer do a masterful job of crafting individual voices that fit the personalities of each person. Each chapter focuses on a particular character, and every detail of the plot is clear--in part because of deft narration. Minor characters, too, are handled with aplomb. The narrators' Southern accents help differentiate the characters. This well-written novel has a unique structure, and its narration is consistently top-notch. Anna Caputo brings both joy and melancholy into her narration of Jenny Green's failure at life as she has watched her friends succeed…Caputo wrings the right amount of empathy out of this story; she is the voice of every woman who has longed for a second chance. Never whining but ever hopeful, Caputo is captivating. As she brings forth Jenny's self-actualization, listeners will question the definition of success and the repercussions of choices.
